Children’s Dentistry
An early start
Prevention is better than a cure
As dentists, we believe it is vital to take good care of your teeth to prevent issues in the future, and this starts from a young age. By bringing your child in at an early age, we’ll be able to give you lots of practical advice on how to keep your children’s teeth in great condition, including:
- Brushing techniques
- The best type of toothpaste and toothbrushes to use
- Guidance on what types of food and drink to avoid
- How to spot signs of decay and other issues
Types of treatment
Aside from carrying out regular check-ups and providing advice on good oral hygiene, we can also provide a range of other treatments for children, including:
Varnishes and sealants
Fluoride varnishes and fissure sealants can help to protect young teeth. Fluoride varnish can be applied every six months to both baby and adult teeth from the age of three. Fissure sealants can be used on the back teeth to prevent decay once adult teeth have emerged (usually from the age of six or seven).
Fillings
If needed, we can perform fillings on both baby and adult teeth. We can provide numbing cream or anaesthetic to make sure that your child is comfortable the whole way through.
Tooth loss
If your child loses an adult tooth while playing sport or during an accident, then it can often be placed back in its socket. However, if that doesn’t work, we can help to put it back in place. Just make sure to make an appointment as soon as possible, put the tooth in a container with milk and keep it sealed until you can get to the practice.
Teeth straightening
Children’s teeth can move around a lot as they grow, so you may want to consider teeth straightening solutions. Click below to look out how we can help.
