Our Adult Orthodontic Treatments

Fixed Metal Braces

Traditional fixed metal braces remain one of the most effective and reliable orthodontic treatments available. Using small metal brackets bonded to the teeth and connected by a wire, braces apply gentle, consistent pressure to gradually move teeth into their ideal positions.

Fixed braces are particularly well-suited to complex cases where precise control of tooth movement is required. They work continuously, 24 hours a day, meaning treatment times can often be very efficient. Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how straightforward the experience is, and by the transformative results that follow.

Lingual Braces

If you’d love the effectiveness of fixed braces but want to keep your treatment completely discreet, lingual braces could be the perfect solution. Fitted to the inner (tongue-facing) surface of your teeth rather than the front, lingual braces are virtually invisible from the outside; no one needs to know you’re having treatment.

Lingual braces are custom-made to fit the exact contours of your teeth, making them a highly precise and personalised option. They’re an excellent choice for adults in professional or social environments where appearance is important.

Clear Aligner Systems

For an even more discreet teeth-straightening option, we also offer removable aligner treatments like Invisalign.

FAQ's

Hidden
Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?
Not at all. There is no upper age limit for orthodontic treatment. As long as your teeth and gums are healthy, adult braces or aligners can be just as effective as treatment carried out in adolescence. In fact, many of our adult patients tell us they wish they'd started sooner. Our orthodontic dentist will assess your suitability at your initial consultation and recommend the most appropriate treatment for you.
How long will my treatment take?
Treatment times vary depending on the complexity of your case and the type of treatment chosen. Some cases can be completed in as little as six months, while more complex corrections may take 18 to 24 months or longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate during your consultation so you know what to expect from the outset.
Will braces affect my speech or daily life?
There is usually a short settling-in period of a week or two during which you may notice a slight change to your speech or some initial discomfort. Most patients adapt very quickly and find that braces or aligners have minimal impact on their day-to-day life. Our team will give you all the guidance you need to feel confident from the start.
Are lingual braces as effective as regular fixed braces?
Yes, lingual braces are made to a very precise, custom specification and are capable of treating the same range of cases as conventional fixed braces. They simply work from the inside of the teeth rather than the outside, so they aren’t as visible. Your orthodontic dentist will advise whether lingual braces are suitable for your particular case.
Is orthodontic treatment painful?
It's common to experience some tenderness for a few days after braces are fitted or adjusted, as your teeth begin to move and respond to the pressure. This is entirely normal and usually manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Any discomfort typically settles quickly, and most patients find treatment far more comfortable than they expected.
How do I keep my teeth clean during treatment?
Good oral hygiene is especially important during orthodontic treatment. We'll show you how to brush and floss effectively around your braces or aligners, and our hygiene team is available to support you throughout. With fixed braces, we recommend using interdental brushes alongside your regular toothbrush.
What happens when my treatment is finished?
Once your teeth have moved into their new positions, you'll need to wear a retainer to keep them there. Teeth have a natural tendency to shift back over time, and retainers, which can be removable or fixed, prevent this from happening. Retention is an important part of your long-term result, and we'll discuss your options at the appropriate stage of treatment.
How much does adult orthodontic treatment cost?
Costs vary depending on the type of treatment and the complexity of your case. We'll provide you with a full, transparent breakdown of fees following your consultation. We also offer a membership plan and can discuss payment options to help spread the cost. Please visit our fees page or call us to find out more.
